Plonk Wine Club Review 2026 — Full Review 2026

Plonk is the wine club built by Etty Klein - a certified chef and sommelier who decided the subscription market needed more certified organic sourcing, more unusual grapes, and fewer safe commercial selections. After four shipments, I think she was right.

✅ Pros

  • Genuine organic and sustainable sourcing
  • Highest discovery factor of any club reviewed
  • Unusual grapes from underrated regions
  • Founder is certified chef and sommelier

❌ Cons

  • More expensive than comparable organic clubs
  • Discovery focus may not suit all palates
  • Limited customisation options

Plonk Wine Club occupies a specific and underserved space: genuinely organic and sustainable sourcing, with a focus on grapes and regions that rarely appear in mainstream wine subscriptions. The founder, Etty Klein, is both a certified chef and a certified sommelier. The combination matters – the selections show an understanding of how wine works with food that purely wine-focused curators sometimes miss.

The first thing that distinguishes Plonk from clubs that use organic loosely is the sourcing specificity. Klein has built direct relationships with small-batch producers – not large organic producers serving export markets, but small family operations farming without synthetic inputs because it is what they believe in. A Georgian amber wine made with traditional qvevri fermentation. A Spanish Txakoli from the Basque coast. A Slovenian Rebula with a texture unlike any white wine I had encountered before. None of these appear in any mainstream wine club I have reviewed.

The Discovery Factor

Plonk has the highest discovery factor of any club in my review pool. In four shipments, I did not receive a single grape variety I had received from a subscription before. This is a strength that is also a limitation – if you want familiar varieties like Cabernet or Chardonnay, Plonk will consistently push you somewhere less comfortable.

Versus Organic Wine Exchange

Organic Wine Exchange has more rigorous certification requirements and better customisation options. Plonk has a higher discovery factor and a more interesting global range. For someone who wants to specify grape varieties and regions, Organic Wine Exchange serves that need better. For someone who wants to be genuinely surprised by excellent sustainable wine every month, Plonk is the stronger choice.

Verdict

Score: 8.5 / 10. The best discovery club for enthusiasts who want unusual grapes and genuine organic sourcing. Not the right choice for beginners or anyone who wants familiar varieties. Read our guide to organic, biodynamic, and natural wine for more context on certifications.
